Flash or No Flash

The Drawbacks of Flash range from browser incompatibility to poor search engine optimization. The Draw to Flash is obvious, cool transition effects. I love using flash in my projects because of it's immediate gratification. You do all the work, and you get something at everyone ooos and aaaahs over. However, sometimes flash doesn't play right, or clients can't figure out how to use the flash features that you so painstakingly programmed. I feel that flash sites make the internet a more interesting place to work. It gives designers yet another tool to express their creative side in the world of web programming. If you would like to have flash in your site keep in mind that search engines can't read flash content, so you are loosing out on lots of the keyword placement that will get your site ranked on the major search engines.

Modern Backgrounds

A creative web designer should be able to display your content with taste and flair. Backgrounds can drastically change the look and feel of a website. I like to play around with many different looks before settling. Polka dots can look cutesy and very appropriate for boutique businesses such as catering, or clothing retail. Wood grains and other images of natural materials can give real life texture and depth to a web page. From Animal print to Zig Zags, there are many ways to express mood and style. If you are building a site from scratch, ask your web designer to see what backgrounds they have on file. That can be a good way to communicate the style you are looking for.
